The local live music industry has been facing significant challenges over the years, which have been escalated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Intermittent closures, restrictions and regulations, and modifications for safe operation have added to the list of costs associated with the pandemic. These challenges have resulted in some of our local live entertainment venues closing permanently, or on the brink of closure, and The Queen’s is not exempt.

The Queen’s has long been a crucial component of the live entertainment industry in Nanaimo, and the island as a whole. For decades, they have provided stage time for artists to showcase their skills and practice their talents, aiding many of them in achieving national and international success. The Queen’s also offers their venue as a space for artists to practice their performances, record music videos, conduct photoshoots, and stream online shows. It has also become an important networking hub for artists and promoters alike. 

In addition to their contribution to live entertainment, The Queen’s regularly offers their venue to local charities, non-profits, and others in the community for fundraising events (helping raise over $300,000 in the past 15 years). They also provide a variety of jobs to our local residents and promoters. But their contributions do not end at their venue. The Queen’s hosts outdoor concerts, and their staff volunteer their time to help operate community events, such as Bathtub Weekend, Canada Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and so on. But most importantly, The Queen’s has long been an inclusive meeting space for our community to come together.

As important as The Queen’s has become to our community, our community is the lifeline for The Queen’s and our artists. They need your help today, more than ever, to keep live music alive in our community.
