The Nanaimo Blues Society and the Nanaimo International Jazz Festival Association have teamed up to bring you Mardi Gras celebrations on Friday, February 17 (7 - 9:30pm) and Sunday, February 19 (3 pm) at The Queen’s. Tickets are $25 for members of the Nanaimo Blues Society and the Nanaimo International Jazz Festival Association, $30 for the general public and are available at https://nanaimoblues.tickit.ca
The featured performers on February 17th are Cannery Row, who are a quartet from BC’s West Coast. Fronted by Gary Comeau on fiddle, accordion, piano, mandolin, guitar, banjo & vocals, the band also includes Tim Hearsey on guitar, slide guitar, banjo & vocals; Maple Blues nominee Chris Nordquist on drums, percussion, washboard & vocals and Jerry Cook on sax and percussion. With diverse musical backgrounds and a common love of roots, folk, Latin, jazz & blues music, Cannery Row has woven an eclectic mix of original tunes. You will hear the influence of Mardi Gras from New Orleans, the blues from Memphis and the Mississippi delta, the Latin rhythms of Cuba, and a sprinkle of the early roots of jazz as they perform songs from their self-titled album.
