The BATHTUB WEEKEND LAUNCH PARTY is a 1-day concert festival taking place at Maffeo Sutton Park on Friday July 19th. STARTS at 5PM. Ends at 10PM

Featuring BIG SUGAR

The ionic Big Sugar boldly goes forth with their brand new album “ETERNITY NOW”. Johnson, at the controls of his Texas studio “THE SOUND SHACK”, applies his signature 1970s thump and otherworldly psycho-acoustic dub effects that have made him a much sought out remixer/producer. For the first time, there are no co-writers outside the band and new song lyrics ring out tried and true. Uplifting and full of resolve whilst addressing the realities of a hard life lived and survived; whether it’s the tale of redemption in “The Better It Gets” or the vow to his real life superhero in “Wonder Woman”.

Gordie Johnson storms the stage with his signature double neck Gibson guitar, howling into the mic “Time to get back to the land of the living”. He may sing like a man possessed but he is a man sharing what it’s like to be blessed. After winning a long battle against his personal demons and riding a wave of renewed energy, Johnson and Big Sugar were slammed by band member defections, an aborted album, mental illness, addiction and even a life threatening illness. However…

There is still magic flying between Johnson and his diverse troupe known worldwide as Big Sugar but this is a new kind of magic; a shiny alchemy that compliments their hard won transformation. He is joined by his long time friend and bassist Big Ben Richardson, drummer/multi-instrumentalist Chris Colepaugh and the languid Alex Johnson (Gordie’s sexy significant other) adding subliminal textures of percussive sound, along with new member Rey Arteaga, master of Afro Cuban rhythms on congas. Whether these 5 are performing brand new songs or their certified hits, the roots rock reggae groove is deep and Gordie Johnson’s guitar always tells a story.

Johnson’s vocals bear the scars of time yet emanate a vital musicality that recalls the young band that burst into the spotlight with the raging “Ride Like Hell” or their first radio hit “Diggin A Hole”. He explains that his Big Sugar band now sings like a family, enabling them to create a sixth element with their powerful harmonies.

The leaner, cleaner, present day Big Sugar still rock the house to keep fans dancing and playing air guitar but whatever you thought this band was, let it go. The title of their first track “Anything is Possible” states it best.

Yes, anything is possible.

BIO: The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra

The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra are a collection of musicians, linked by common sonic journeys and familial ties. It doesn’t matter much how they got here, but rather that they are traveling with each other. Now they are here in the room with you, the way music in the folk tradition always is, to bring people together; to share real flesh, blood and feeling.

WE MAKE REALLY PARTY is a 5 song EP that returns to the old world sounds the band became known for in its early years. With both original and reimagined roots and folk songs in English, Spanish and Italian WE MAKE REALLY PARTY captures the band playing live off the floor in a three day session after a summer tour. It is a record that is refined in both playing and production while honouring the band's past musically.

TMO have spent years weaving their stories with guitars and violins, with accordions and bass, with melodies and music makers gleaned from their wanderings. Here are the troubadours to remind you that this music (no matter what kind of device it ends up on) could not exist without warm bodies in search of harmony.

BIO: The Clanns

Bringing more than a pint of fervor and charm, The Clanns are a lively Celtic Rock band from Vancouver Island, BC.

Scotty Guy - Guitar & Vocals- Since the 1990's Scottie's been a travelling musician throughout western Canada. In 1996 he boarded a freight train for the coast, and later made his way to Errington BC. On a fine winter's day, in a Qualicum Beach cafe, he met up with the members who would eventually become the Clanns

Al Black Davidson – Drums, Mandolin & Vocals - A Canadian lad with Scottish heritage, spent many years on the road touring with various Roots bands and drinking beer. He was also the original drummer of Canada's Rockabilly Madmen "the Nervous Fellas"

Len Imbery – Accordion -Hailing from the moors of Saskatchewan with a checkered heritage and past, is a qualified Irish-come-lately as he is a purveyor of beer and fine spirits, done while simultaneously playing an accordion.

Angela – Fiddle & Vocals – has chosen to remain silent about her past. Some of the other band members think she may be on the run and part of a witness protection program.

Terry Parker - Bass Guitar - The newest Clann member hailing from the East Coast. He brings to the band his solid playing, strong east coast music influence and an occasional beer to rehearsal.

Jon and Roy's 8th album Here (out 3/1/19) epitomizes their journey to date; an assured collection of 9 brand new songs that touch upon themes of love, presence, hardship and joy. Building upon the creative energy of 2017’s The Road Ahead is Golden, Here is an aural balm to soothe in these uncertain times; a gentle reminder to be present, to revel in the simple joy of living. “To me, this album is something special,” says Middleton, “It contains all the elements that I hold dear about this band, and it feels free to me; as true an expression of our music as we’ve ever created”

Recorded in the quiet forests of Vancouver Island over the summer and fall of 2018, Here is quintessential Jon and Roy. “Half of the songs were written this past year,” Middleton continues, “but the other half are 2, or even three years old, and have needed time to simmer to get where they needed to be.” In the title track, Middleton’s beguiling vocals weave a languid tale atop of Roy Vizer’s laid back percussion. The tracks 'Headstrong' and 'Seven Colts' are buoyant, filled with an exuberance that is elevated by a breezy horn section and strong vocals. In the raw and honest 'Where Has My Love Gone', Middleton laments lost love; his impassioned vocals rising over Vizer’s stripped back drums. A compelling lyricist, Middleton is renowned for not sharing the meaning behind the songs; instead encouraging the listener to draw upon their own personal experiences to find connection, “I love that our songs have an ambiguity to them,” he says.

Fat Possum recording artist, the one and only, the legend himself...BOB LOG III returns to Nanaimo, his favourite city in the whole wide world, for an extra special nite of pure, unbridled ass-kicking ROCK & ROLL. With special guests AWKWARD AC and BEHAVIOURS. 19+. Doors at 9pm. Tickets 10 bucks (cheap), available soon.

So when you see a man in a jumpsuit and full-face helmet rigged up with a telephone receiver come barreling down the honky-tonk stairs in a lifeboat while beating away on a hollow-body guitar, don’t get out of the way. Jump right in there with him. And as long as you live, you’ll never forget what he taught you.Taipei Times December 2015

A man in a human cannonball suit soon appeared from a side door, his head completely obscured by a tinted black helmet, its front welded into a telephone which seemed to wirelessly amplify his voice to the audience. Bob Log III launched into a mind-blowing set, finger-picking his beaten-up black guitar for a sound of steel string blues and heavy rock n’ roll. The sound was reminiscent of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion if it had to be categorised, but his music would be better described as Jerry Lee Lewis crossed with a little of Tom Waits’ heavy industrial sounds.yorkpress.co.uk 2012

His guitar growls like a rabies-infested mutt, straight from the backyard of an Alabama whorehouse. The expletives he squawks are absolutely unintelligible, at least while the groan of his six stringed demon viciously dominates the aural realm. When the blanket of perfectly distorted guitar ends, which always coincides with a great victory stance, Mr. Log displays his propensity for what is only describable as ‘not giving a fuck’, which in his case takes the form of the perfect stage presence. beatsperminute.com 2012

Boobs were dipped in scotch, one fan took an accidental swan dive into the music equipment and Bob Log III managed to play slide guitar, drums and sing while balancing three women on his lap. heyreverb.com 2011

Neil Evans. We thought this would be a goodway to say goodbye to our beautiful friend, our bandmate. We are still trying to understand why Neil was taken from us so suddenly. It was an honour to be blessed with the opportunity to know Neil, his witty humor and his amazing musicianship. His memory will be a treasure, Neil you were loved beyond words and you will be missed beyond any measure. When tomorrow starts without you, the sun will rise and our sorrow will remain, but you will always be in our thoughts and in our hearts.

One of the unfortunate outcomes of an event like this is the unexpected expenses which arise. Launching this fundraising campaign is for the partner of Neil Evans, who is an incredibly strong and kind woman and could use our support at this time.

Seattle Grunge: Tribute to the Legends.

Seattle Grunge: Tribute to the Legends.

Andrew Patrick Wood (January 8, 1966 – March 19, 1990) was an Seattle musician best known as the lead singer for alternative rock bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone.

The bands were often cited as being among the "founding fathers" of the Seattle's grunge movement. During his time in Malfunkshun, Wood started relying heavily on drugs, entering rehab in 1985.

By 1988, Malfunkshun had disbanded and Wood began jamming with Green River members Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament. They soon began writing original material and formed Mother Love Bone the same year, adding guitarist Bruce Fairweather (also a former member of Green River) and drummer Greg Gilmore to the lineup. The following year, the band signed a deal with PolyGram, issuing a six-song EP, Shine, before going on to tour, supporting The Dogs D'Amour. Towards the end of the year, the band recorded their debut album, Apple, which was scheduled for release in 1990.

Due to his struggle with drug addiction, Wood checked himself into rehab in 1989, hoping to get clean for the release of Mother Love Bone's debut album. On March 16, 1990, Wood was found in a comatose state by his girlfriend, Xana La Fuente, having overdosed on heroin. Wood was taken to the hospital and placed on life support. Wood died three days later.

Apple was released posthumously later in the year, receiving positive reviews. David Browne of The New York Times wrote that "Apple may be one of the first great hard-rock records of the 90s" and that "Andrew Wood could have been the first of the big-league Seattle rock stars.

Shortly following Wood's death, former roommate Chris Cornell of Soundgarden wrote two songs, "Reach Down" and "Say Hello 2 Heaven", in tribute to his late friend. Cornell then approached Gossard and Ament about releasing the songs as singles before collaborating on an album. Adding drummer Matt Cameron, future Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready, and future Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder, they formed Temple of the Dog in 1990 to pay tribute to Wood, releasing one self-titled album in 1991.

Fellow Seattle band Alice in Chains dedicated their debut album Facelift to Wood. The song "Would?", included in their second album Dirt and on the soundtrack to the film Singles (1992), was written as an ode to Wood. In the liner notes of Alice in Chains' Music Bank box set collection, Jerry Cantrell said of the song:

I was thinking a lot about Andrew Wood at the time. We always had a great time when we did hang out, much like Chris Cornell and I do. There was never really a serious moment or conversation, it was all fun. Andy was a hilarious guy, full of life and it was really sad to lose him.

Come out and see some of the top musicians in the community pay tribute to the Legends.

Maverick Cinema is a Vancouver Island Folk inspired Indie-Rock quartet consisting of Marshal Dillabough, Spencer Hiemstra, Peter Bird, and Seth Recalma. They have completed several Canada wide tours and have played in multiple festivals all of which they perform a high energy set that is entertaining for all audiences. The band released their debut EP Sanctuary in 2016 and three singles in 2017 & 2018, and released their Debut Full-Length Album on April 19th, 2019.

"The Stacks deliver floor pounding juke joint scorchers smouldering with guitar distortion, slick with greasy grooves and stinking of sex. Fronted by the Lineker brothers with Matt churning up some burbling bass flow under Jordan’s ragged and fuzzed out guitar work, while “soul brother” drummer Ben Wengel bashes out a haunting jungle beat. The Lineker boys’ wailing harmonies are mournful and raw and the production runs a fine balance between distortion, reverb and psychedelic twang.

When it comes to rockin’ the blues I say the harder and dirtier the better. These tracks by The Stacks will unlock your spine and pollute your mind. If you’re looking to get all messed up, then your search is over."

In the studio by day, Steve demonstrates his unending creativity through the production of forward-thinking Bass House music. In the club by night, his DJ sets are best described as predictably unpredictable. Music is delivered in a high energy and fast paced flow through genres, with clever edits and segues throughout. Finding balance between staying true to his affinity for creating weird music, yet staying current and relatable to a broad range of fans has always been a top priority.

Between original work and remixes, his productions have earned release on taste making imprints such as: Mad Decent, Fools Gold, Confession, Punks, Psycho Disco and Cheap Thrills. He has been the top choice for features on remix EPs from some of dance music’s biggest names, including: Zeds Dead, Grandtheft, Keys N Krates, Excision and Stanton Warriors, among others.

Last year’s collaboration with Marten Horger, titled “You Don’t” gained worldwide acclaim from both fans and DJ’s alike, ultimately being signed to Tchami’s Confession Label, and featured as tune of the month in Mix Mag.

As a regular on the club and festival circuit at home in Western Canada, and 9 year resident of the Fractal Forest family at Shambhala Music Festival, Steve has also played at notable fests including: Burning Man, ADE, Breakfest, BeatHerder & Envision, and played in 15 countries worldwide.

Demonstrating his wide array of musical talents and versatility, Steve’s chill mixtape series Pleasensations have become a much-anticipated fan favourite, collectively earning over a million plays.

Having spent the better part of his career dancing between genres, he has finally found the sweet spot and his focus moving forward will be predominantly House. Loaded with an arsenal of originals and collaborations lined up for release in the near future, 2019 is looking to be yet another big year for Neon Steve

Blue Eyes & Me: Tribute to Sinatra, With John Gorosh.

Blue Eyes & Me: Tribute to Sinatra, With John Gorosh.

Indie Entertainment
Proudly Presents:

BLUE EYE'S & ME: a Tribute to Frank Sinatra with John Gorosh

When a former class mate told John that his band wanted him to cover a rock song at their 40th school reunion, he immediately said “NO Way, It’s been 40 years since I sang anything”

But after a few weeks, he thought “If it’s that scary, I’ve got to do it!” That experience was so much fun, he decided that learning songs would be a good pastime and after a few years of practicing on his own for fun, found a professional voice teacher, mentor and a friend in Jona Kristinsson,, Nanaimo’s premier vocal coach at West Coast Vocal Academy and owner of Indie Entertainment.

At his first lesson, she asked ”who’s your favorite singers?” Ray Charles, James Brown, Tony Bennett, B.B.King, Howlin’Wolf and …Frank Sinatra.

After a few songs, Jona realized the talent she was working with and said “Let's go with the Chairman of the Board, Frank!”. And so the training started.

Here we are today armed with an amazing 6 piece band, of highly sought after musicians and one hell of a show.

What keeps John going is the respect for the Music that Sinatra recorded: the clever lyrics, the arrangements of Nelson Riddle, and the fabulous sounds of the Count Basie Orchestra, the intriguing tones that make Sinatra’s voice so compelling .

Some of the songs are light hearted love songs, but favorites are darker and deeper, where you can hear the years of life’s ups and downs come through.

Opening Act
Lady Sings the Jazz with Jona Kristinsson

Most people know Jona from Wunderbread, The Femme Fatales, Moonshine Mollys, Jona Kristinsson band, The First Ladies of Country, Miss Peaches & Me: tribute to Etta James and many more bands.

This is also her first time singing Jazz/ Jazz fusion live other then her Etta James Show.
