Blue Eyes & Me: Tribute to Sinatra, With John Gorosh.

Indie Entertainment
Proudly Presents:

BLUE EYE'S & ME: a Tribute to Frank Sinatra with John Gorosh

When a former class mate told John that his band wanted him to cover a rock song at their 40th school reunion, he immediately said “NO Way, It’s been 40 years since I sang anything”

But after a few weeks, he thought “If it’s that scary, I’ve got to do it!” That experience was so much fun, he decided that learning songs would be a good pastime and after a few years of practicing on his own for fun, found a professional voice teacher, mentor and a friend in Jona Kristinsson,, Nanaimo’s premier vocal coach at West Coast Vocal Academy and owner of Indie Entertainment.

At his first lesson, she asked ”who’s your favorite singers?” Ray Charles, James Brown, Tony Bennett, B.B.King, Howlin’Wolf and …Frank Sinatra.

After a few songs, Jona realized the talent she was working with and said “Let's go with the Chairman of the Board, Frank!”. And so the training started.

Here we are today armed with an amazing 6 piece band, of highly sought after musicians and one hell of a show.

What keeps John going is the respect for the Music that Sinatra recorded: the clever lyrics, the arrangements of Nelson Riddle, and the fabulous sounds of the Count Basie Orchestra, the intriguing tones that make Sinatra’s voice so compelling .

Some of the songs are light hearted love songs, but favorites are darker and deeper, where you can hear the years of life’s ups and downs come through.

Opening Act

This is also her first time singing Jazz/ Jazz fusion live other then her Etta James Show.

Neon Steve

Canadian DJ/ Producer Steve Robertson, professionally known as Neon Steve, has curated a unique style and gained an impressive following of fans over the past decade.

In the studio by day, Steve demonstrates his unending creativity through the production of forward-thinking Bass House music. In the club by night, his DJ sets are best described as predictably unpredictable. Music is delivered in a high energy and fast paced flow through genres, with clever edits and segues throughout. Finding balance between staying true to his affinity for creating weird music, yet staying current and relatable to a broad range of fans has always been a top priority.

Between original work and remixes, his productions have earned release on taste making imprints such as: Mad Decent, Fools Gold, Confession, Punks, Psycho Disco and Cheap Thrills. He has been the top choice for features on remix EPs from some of dance music’s biggest names, including: Zeds Dead, Grandtheft, Keys N Krates, Excision and Stanton Warriors, among others.

Last year’s collaboration with Marten Horger, titled “You Don’t” gained worldwide acclaim from both fans and DJ’s alike, ultimately being signed to Tchami’s Confession Label, and featured as tune of the month in Mix Mag.

As a regular on the club and festival circuit at home in Western Canada, and 9 year resident of the Fractal Forest family at Shambhala Music Festival, Steve has also played at notable fests including: Burning Man, ADE, Breakfest, BeatHerder & Envision, and played in 15 countries worldwide.

Demonstrating his wide array of musical talents and versatility, Steve’s chill mixtape series Pleasensations have become a much-anticipated fan favourite, collectively earning over a million plays.

Having spent the better part of his career dancing between genres, he has finally found the sweet spot and his focus moving forward will be predominantly House. Loaded with an arsenal of originals and collaborations lined up for release in the near future, 2019 is looking to be yet another big year for Neon Steve

Maverick Cinema is a Vancouver Island Folk inspired Indie-Rock quartet consisting of Marshal Dillabough, Spencer Hiemstra, Peter Bird, and Seth Recalma. They have completed several Canada wide tours and have played in multiple festivals all of which they perform a high energy set that is entertaining for all audiences. The band released their debut EP Sanctuary in 2016 and three singles in 2017 & 2018, and released their Debut Full-Length Album on April 19th, 2019.

"The Stacks deliver floor pounding juke joint scorchers smouldering with guitar distortion, slick with greasy grooves and stinking of sex. Fronted by the Lineker brothers with Matt churning up some burbling bass flow under Jordan’s ragged and fuzzed out guitar work, while “soul brother” drummer Ben Wengel bashes out a haunting jungle beat. The Lineker boys’ wailing harmonies are mournful and raw and the production runs a fine balance between distortion, reverb and psychedelic twang.

When it comes to rockin’ the blues I say the harder and dirtier the better. These tracks by The Stacks will unlock your spine and pollute your mind. If you’re looking to get all messed up, then your search is over."

Seattle Grunge: Tribute to the Legends.

Seattle Grunge: Tribute to the Legends.

Andrew Patrick Wood (January 8, 1966 – March 19, 1990) was an Seattle musician best known as the lead singer for alternative rock bands Malfunkshun and Mother Love Bone.

The bands were often cited as being among the "founding fathers" of the Seattle's grunge movement. During his time in Malfunkshun, Wood started relying heavily on drugs, entering rehab in 1985.

By 1988, Malfunkshun had disbanded and Wood began jamming with Green River members Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament. They soon began writing original material and formed Mother Love Bone the same year, adding guitarist Bruce Fairweather (also a former member of Green River) and drummer Greg Gilmore to the lineup. The following year, the band signed a deal with PolyGram, issuing a six-song EP, Shine, before going on to tour, supporting The Dogs D'Amour. Towards the end of the year, the band recorded their debut album, Apple, which was scheduled for release in 1990.

Due to his struggle with drug addiction, Wood checked himself into rehab in 1989, hoping to get clean for the release of Mother Love Bone's debut album. On March 16, 1990, Wood was found in a comatose state by his girlfriend, Xana La Fuente, having overdosed on heroin. Wood was taken to the hospital and placed on life support. Wood died three days later.

Apple was released posthumously later in the year, receiving positive reviews. David Browne of The New York Times wrote that "Apple may be one of the first great hard-rock records of the 90s" and that "Andrew Wood could have been the first of the big-league Seattle rock stars.

Shortly following Wood's death, former roommate Chris Cornell of Soundgarden wrote two songs, "Reach Down" and "Say Hello 2 Heaven", in tribute to his late friend. Cornell then approached Gossard and Ament about releasing the songs as singles before collaborating on an album. Adding drummer Matt Cameron, future Pearl Jam lead guitarist Mike McCready, and future Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder, they formed Temple of the Dog in 1990 to pay tribute to Wood, releasing one self-titled album in 1991.

Fellow Seattle band Alice in Chains dedicated their debut album Facelift to Wood. The song "Would?", included in their second album Dirt and on the soundtrack to the film Singles (1992), was written as an ode to Wood. In the liner notes of Alice in Chains' Music Bank box set collection, Jerry Cantrell said of the song:

I was thinking a lot about Andrew Wood at the time. We always had a great time when we did hang out, much like Chris Cornell and I do. There was never really a serious moment or conversation, it was all fun. Andy was a hilarious guy, full of life and it was really sad to lose him.

Come out and see some of the top musicians in the community pay tribute to the Legends.

Neil's Farewell Song Fundraiser

https://www.facebook.com/events/426157241278714/

Neil Evans. We thought this would be a goodway to say goodbye to our beautiful friend, our bandmate. We are still trying to understand why Neil was taken from us so suddenly. It was an honour to be blessed with the opportunity to know Neil, his witty humor and his amazing musicianship. His memory will be a treasure, Neil you were loved beyond words and you will be missed beyond any measure. When tomorrow starts without you, the sun will rise and our sorrow will remain, but you will always be in our thoughts and in our hearts.

One of the unfortunate outcomes of an event like this is the unexpected expenses which arise. Launching this fundraising campaign is for the partner of Neil Evans, who is an incredibly strong and kind woman and could use our support at this time.

If you can't make this event you can still donate to Neil's family at this link: https://www.facebook.com/donate/325390564828635/10219081844939617/

BC/DC Live at The Queen's

BC/DC Live at The Queen's

https://www.facebook.com/events/314199432630671/

Nanaimo! After 20 years on the Highway to Hell, Canada's Favourite Rock N' Roll Salute, BC/DC brings their legendary dose of high voltage rock n' roll to the Queen's in Nanaimo on Saturday, May 11th for the very first time! $15 advance tix available at the Queen's. Show at 10PM.

There are tribute bands, and then there’s BCDC. They were born of bush party ashes in the summer of 1999. Some 1000 unexpected gigs later, Canada’s BC/DC has systematically redefined the concept of a tribute band, garnering iconic status amongst diehard fans, agents, and venues from Vancouver BC to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. From the backyard biker bashes of Ymir, to the star-studded legendary rooms of Las Vegas. From Nelson to Shanghai.

While a web search will turn up dozens of AC/DC cover acts around the world, there aren’t likely many who’ve so successfully branded the Aussie band’s timeless raunch with such epic rock n’ roll fury, while also managing to bottle the essence of a wild frontier lifestyle.

Unlike many tribute acts claiming to be “North America’s #1 Clone” or “Just Like the Real Thing”, BC/DC has turned the tables. The band takes a comedic approach, claiming the tunes as their own, and to having “heard of some BC/DC tribute band from Australia”. They rarely give factual interviews to big city press. Adding to the schtick, the band members all go by comic aliases – lead singer Brendan Raftery’s Brian “Bon” Johnscottson paying respects to both AC/DC’s famous frontmen. It’s working. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

KYTAMI Bio:

If a line exists between classical and electronic, between ancient and new, synthetic and organic, Kytami has sliced them all using only a violin bow… but what more does she need?

Apparently nothing at all, as Kytami has managed to soar above not only the constraints of musical genre and labeling but has forged a path so bold and unique that it won her awards such as “Live Act of The Year” at the 2013 Vancouver Island Music Awards and a 2017 Nomination and 2013 win for “Electronic/Dance Recording of the Year” at the Western Canadian Music Awards.

Through an alchemy of classical, fiddle styles fused with the heavy bass elements of DnB, Dubstep and Hip Hop, Kytami has developed a steadily growing reputation for her dynamic performances. She has appeared at festivals and major events such as Valhalla, Shambhala, Rifflandia, Centre of Gravity, Motion Notion, Connect Festival, Tall Tree Music Festival, Electric Love, CMW, Music Matters, Electric Forest, Fozzy Fest and Rock the Shores (to name but a few), as well as opening for heavyweights Datsik, Dub FX, Dieselboy, DC Breaks and the Prototypes.

This girl doesn’t just play shows, she detonates dance floors. Kytami is internationally renowned for one thing: she rocks the fiddle like a woman possessed… and the audience dances to match.

From Germany to Singapore and Joshua Tree Festival to Shambhala, one thing is affirmed at Kytami concerts time and again: If you dare witness this violin diva take the stage, be prepared to wear through not only the soles of your dancing shoes, but perhaps the version of reality you brought to the door.
